Kent Fire and Rescue issue warning after kitchen blaze in Maidstone Road, Rochester

Firefighters have issued a safety warning after a kitchen blaze in a flat.

Three crews attended an address in Maidstone Road, Rochester, after receiving a 999 call at 11.50am on Saturday.

They donned breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

One occupant had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

It is thought the fire started after the cooker hob was accidentally switched on.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people that to reduce that they should always keep oven gloves, tea towels and other items that could catch fire well away from the hob.

The fire was out and the crews able to leave the property by 12.20pm.
