Drivers heading to the coast faced long delays after a crash on the M2.

Three vehicles collided on the coast-bound carriageway between junction 4 for Gillingham and 5 for Sittingbourne at about 11.15am.

All traffic was initially held while emergency services dealt with the incident.

It was released about half an hour later, after the vehicles involved were moved to the hard shoulder.

Disruption continued until just before 2pm.

At one point, queues were stretching back more than three miles, causing delays of at least 30 minutes.

The congestion has now cleared.
