Gillingham heroin and crack cocaine dealer jailed after drugs found in his pants

A jobless young man was stopped after police saw him cycling around Gillingham town centre "apparently aimlessly".

Harry Turner, 20, was seen "grabbing his crotch" by officers, so he was stopped and searched on June 26 this year.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that more than 103 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine were found hidden in his pants when he was stopped by officers in Lock Street.

When police searched his home in Canterbury Street in the town, a further 21 wraps were located.

Turner pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.

He told police he had been dealing for just a week-and-a-half and did it for money.

Defence barrister Charles Drinnan said Turner was an "unintelligent, immature young person" who saw people making money and wanted to do it himself.

"He is very sorry and was very honest to police officers when he was arrested."

It is estimated the combined street value of the drugs seized was £1,250 and Turner's phone was also found to contain numerous texts from users requesting drugs.

Judge Stephen Thomas sent him into detention for two years and eight months and ordered the confiscation of £350 cash which Turner was carrying.

PC Michael Williams, Kent Police’s investigating officer for the case, said: "Turner was selling drugs in an ill-advised attempt to quickly make a lot of money and, in doing so, he was exploiting people living with drug addictions.

"Our county line and gang team regularly patrol our town centres, often in plain clothes, and anyone with ambitions similar to Turner’s can be assured that we will continue to proactively target them and ensure they face justice."
