Vehicle fire causes havoc on M2 near Gillingham

Drivers have been caught up in delays after a car caught fire on the M2 east-bound this evening.

A driver was lucky to escape after his car, exiting the slip road near Wigmore, caught fire at arond 6pm.

The fire brigade extinguished the flames, but the vehicle was badly damaged.

Police held traffic for the fire to be put out, with tailbacks stretching to J3.

Local photographer, resident and businessman Gary Guillon, who runs a local design, print and web studio in Wigmore, said the vehicled was "completely gutted".

Traffic started to return to normal just before 7pm.
