Delays after lorry overturns and sheds its load of soil on Four Elms roundabout in Wainscott

An overturned lorry is causing delays for motorists this morning after it shed its load of soil.

The HGV overturned on the Four Elms roundabout in Wainscott shortly before 5am.

The A228 Four Elms Hill Southbound has been closed as a result and traffic is slow from Upchat Road to A289 Wainscott bypass.

Traffic is slow on all approaches to the roundabout and a diversion has been put in place via Upchat Road, Woodfield Way and Islingham Farm Road to re-join the Wainscott bypass.

Police spokesman James Walker, said: "We were called to a report that a lorry had overturned on the Four Elms roundabout, heading towards the Medway Tunnel, at 4.57am.

"Officers attended the scene alongside crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"A road closure was put in place to allow crews emergency service crews to assess for any injuries and tend to an oil spill.

"This has since been lifted however a lane closure remains in place and motorists are advised to expect delays.

"No serious injuries have been reported."
