A distraught mum is stranded in Turkey with no money after her five-year-old son had to undergo emergency stomach surgery.
Kay Bainbridge’s son Layton woke up in the early hours of Tuesday morning (May 20) in severe pain and constantly vomiting.
The pair, who are from Rainham, had travelled to Alanya in Turkey for a family holiday last week.
But Kay says the trip turned into a nightmare after her son had to be rushed to the hospital.
The 29-year-old said: “We went to the emergency clinic where we were refused any help until I had handed over all my money.
“Even then, they still wanted more money to transfer him to a hospital for emergency surgery.
“His intestines had twisted, and he needed them untwisted and some tissue removed.
“He was touch and go, and all they was cared about was money.”
Since having the surgery, she says her little boy is “still in a lot of pain”.
The mum has set up a gofundme to cover her expenses while out in Turkey, and says that while she has purchased insurance, she will not be able to claim it back until she is home.
It has already raised more than £600 of a £2,800 target, and donations can be made here.
“In the meantime, we are here with nothing,” she added.
“All my family had to fly back home so I’m here alone, just me and my son.
“I am asking if anyone could donate anything, even if it’s pennies, just to help us get by while we are here.
“I had to use the remaining money I had to pay the doctor's clinic before we came to the hospital.”
She says the hospital food is insufficient for her little boy, especially while he recovers from major surgery.
“I appreciate any help anyone can give, and would be extremely grateful for any help.
“We’re fighting hard to get Layton back home to the UK for treatment, where he’ll be taken care of with dignity and respect.
“He has been poked, prodded and butchered,” she said, adding: “I really wouldn’t ask but we are desperate right now”.
