Other vehicles were also parked up next to the travellers’ homes, and gas canisters and other items were seen next to the vehicles.

It is understood that the group has since moved from the site.

Around three weeks ago, another unauthorised Traveller pitch was spotted at a recreation ground in Rochester.

Caravans were spotted on April 15 on the green behind the playground at Jackson's play area – which is a popular spot for dog walkers and children.

It came one day after another group was told to leave the green at Beechings Way Playing Fields in Twydall.

A Medway Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the group and are following a civil legal process to move them on.”
