A suspected burglar who reportedly tried to escape from police by running into nearby woodland has been captured after being spotted by a drone.

Officers were called to Birch Grove in the Hempstead area after a homeowner found two men had forced their way inside his property.

The occupant gave chase and called the police who attended the scene at about 10.25am yesterday morning.

Officers searched the area and spotted a suspect who ran away from them into nearby woodland.

Using a police drone they located a man they believe may have been involved in the burglary and he was arrested.

The man, who is in his 20s, was taken to the police station and interviewed by detectives.

He has been released under investigation whilst inquiries continue.
