A busy street has been shut indefinitely for emergency works.
Station Road, in Strood, is closed at its junction with the High Street to allow SGN engineers to investigate a reported gas leak.
To allow the utility firm to repair the network safely, the highway has been closed since 9am today (May 27).
However, it is not known when it is expected to be reopened.
A spokesperson for SGN added: “It is too early to say how long this work will take to complete at this stage.”
A signed diversion route is in place with motorists heading northbound being sent via Commercial Road, High Street, North Street and then Frindsbury Road.
Drivers heading southbound should use Frindsbury Road, North Street and then the High Street.
