Kent Police, HM Coastguard and fire brigade search River Medway in Common Creek Wharf over concern for man’s welfare

Emergency services are continuing to search a river over concerns for the welfare of a man.

Kent Police, HM Coastguard and the fire brigade joined forces to search the River Medway in the Common Creek Wharf area of Rochester just before 11pm (Oct 13) and efforts have resumed this morning.

A coastguard spokesman said: "HM Coastguard has been responding to reports of a person in difficulty in the River Medway near Rochester. Alerted at around 11pm yesterday.

“Coastguard Rescue Teams from Medway and Sheppey, Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopters from Lydd and Lee-on-the-Solent and an inshore lifeboat from Sheerness RNLI have been conducting searches of the area, alongside Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service."

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Officers attended the scene and completed a search along with HM Coastguard and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

“Nobody was located and inquiries are continuing into the report.”
