Shocking footage shows the moment eight masked men stole around £100,000 of stock from a family-run business.
The gang broke into the unit, disabled the alarms and looted hundreds of vapes from Kent Wholesalers in Second Avenue, Chatham, at around 4am last Wednesday.
CCTV shows them entering the unit, having cut through the outside fences, before heading straight to the alarm and sensors to turn them off.
A white van pulls up outside the gates at the front of the site before reversing into them and ramming its way through before the group packs the stolen stock into the back.
Now, the owners, who have run the business for 12 years and moved to this site six years ago, say it feels like a decade of hard work has gone to waste.
They’ve asked not to be named for fear of repercussions.
“We’re such an honest and hard-working family,” he said. “It’s left us in shock and feeling insecure. When I come and go from the unit I don’t know who is watching.
“I don’t feel safe. I don’t feel safe at home either – we’re having new cameras installed and a new security system put in.”
The family, who have children, started the business in a smaller unit in 2013 and delivered goods around the county.
He added: “It took us 12 years to build this up – working night and day. We’d go in the morning and come back at night, putting our heart and soul into this to make a living.
“We’re dependent on this place and worked so hard just for it to be robbed and taken away in a few hours.”
Police are investigating the matter and the victims believe a couple of the suspects are from the Kurdish community due to the accents and language heard in their security footage.
They have also been told their vapes are being sold on Chatham High Street.
“This is our holy month of Ramadan so it’s an even bigger shock to the system,” one of the owners said.
She added: “We hope to start all again but now I’m so insecure. I’m watching my back. They knew where everything was - the sensors, the cameras, the alarm system, the gates.
“It was organised and we were targeted. If they can do something like this they will do it again.”
Thousands of pounds of items were stolen,
One of the owners said: “It feels like we’re starting from the beginning. Luckily, we’ve got a lot of help from the community and from our suppliers to rebuild bit by bit but it’s upsetting to see and knowing it can happen again to anyone.”
Forensic teams have been at the scene and the force is continuing to investigate the burglary.
A spokesman said: “Kent Police is investigating a report of a burglary where a large quantity of vapes were stolen from a property in Second Avenue, Chatham. The incident happened at around 4am on Wednesday, March 12.
“A forensic examination was completed at the scene and CCTV in the area is being examined.”
