A new nightclub could have its bid for longer opening hours rejected tomorrow after complaints by neighbours.

Krystals Nightclub and Vanity Bar is due to open at the site of the former Manor Club in New Road, Chatham, on Tuesday.

It wants permission to stay open until 4am and add an 'adult entertainment' category to its licence.

But residents have said they do not want their lives "blighted" by the plan, which they claim will bring prostitution back to the area and cause excessive noise.

Objections have also been made by Kent Police and Medway Council's environmental health officer Darren Hale.

The premises currently has permission to open until 11pm from Monday to Wednesday, 2.30am from Thursday to Saturday and midnight on Sunday.

It wants to continue to trade until 4am from Thursday to Saturday and 2am every other day.

Club owner Sanjay Raval said he sees no reason why the licence will not be granted.

He said: "We have addressed all the issues the council's environmental officer had and whilst I fully understand and appreciate residents' concerns there has always been a nightclub here."

Mr Raval denied the application for 'performances by artistes of dance for adult audiences' does not mean stripteases and lap dances - but simply covers events where performers bring their own stage dancers.

In a letter of objection to the council, resident James Dalziel said previous clubs had led to a rise in prostitution and feared this would return.

Other residents raised concerns about the behaviour of drunken revellers.
Belinda Prior said she had previously experienced men exposing themselves, women urinating, drunks vomiting and leaving faeces and filth outside her home.

A meeting of Medway Council's licensing sub-committe is due to discuss the application at 9am.
