Firefighters were called to a takeaway after a blaze broke out in the kitchen.

It happened at Davis Estate Fish Bar in Shirley Avenue, Chatham, after a deep fat fryer caught alight this afternoon (Wednesday).

Two fire engines were called shortly after 4.50pm and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using hose reel jets and fire blankets, before ventilating the property.

The scene was made safe, and the crews had left by 5.35pm.

There were no reported injuries.
