Electric blanket causes bedroom fire in Highgrove Road, Chatham

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a home in Kent after an electric blanket overheated.

Crews were called to Highgrove Road, Chatham , at around 10pm last night. (Sep 21)

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

A high pressured fan was used to clear the property of smoke and no casualties were reported.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice that residents shouldn't plug appliances into an extension lead or power socket that together use more than 13 amps or 3,000 watts of energy to reduce the risk of fire.
