A motorist was trapped in his car after a collision close to the roundabout in Anthonys Way, Strood, this morning .

It is not known at this stage if the man is seriously injured, but police cleared a stretch of the road of traffic to enable the Kent Air Ambulance to land.

Firefighters from Medway and Strood stations used their hydraulic cutting equipment to break open the car and free the man.

Motorists were advised to take different routes into Wainscott and the Hoo Peninsula while the emergency services dealt with incident. The road is now fully open.

A spokesman said: "Police were called to the roundabout on the A289 with the junction of Berwick Way just before 8.45am, following reports of an accident between a car and a lorry.

"One male was trapped in the car, but has been released and is being treated by ambulance crews."

The driver has since been taken by land ambulance to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment. He is said to have suffered minor injuries.
