Gillingham: Firefighters tackle house fire in Sturdee Avenue

Firefighters were called to a house fire in Gillingham.

Crews received a call just before 3pm to Sturdee Avenue where there were reports of a lot of smoke coming from a house.

When firefighters arrived they discovered it was a top floor bedroom that was well alight.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the house to tackle the flames.

An ambulance was also called but there have not been any casualties reported and everyone who was in the house has been accounted for.

Less than two hours before the blaze broke out a man, believed to be elderly, died in the same road.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said crews had put out the fire by 3.30pm.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
