Fire in flat in High Street, Gillingham

Four fire engines were sent out after a blaze broke out in a flat this evening.

Police were also called to the property in High Street, Gillingham, at 5.45pm.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames with hose reel jets.

Spokesperson for Kent Police, Martin Very said: "Kent Police was called at around 6pm on Sunday to a fire at a flat in High Street, Gillingham.

"Officers closed a section of the road while Kent Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire. The road was reopened at around 8.20pm."

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A stop time of 6.44pm was recorded.
