Coronavirus Kent: Medway poet Sam Rapp appeals for NHS poems and short stories

A poet wants people to contribute their short stories and poems to say thank you to the NHS.

Sam Rapp, who runs creative writing sessions in Medway, wants to build an anthology of amateur works which will be sold to raise money for the health service.

Sam – who performs as Sam Rapp the Dyslexic Poet – wants to hear from anyone who can write a poem or short story about the health service.

The message for the anthology is "We are made in Medway, but are everywhere", and Sam hopes to compile the book and get it published later this year.

She said: "I just thought I have got to do something, probably like many other people.

"My sister is a frontline worker so it kind of inspired me to think what could I do for her and her colleagues.

"I thought I would put a post on my Facebook and see if people say if people would be inspired to send in poems and short stories for the NHS."

Sam – who was due to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer before it was cancelled – will also be hosting two creative writing sessions online.

The live streams on Wednesday, May 4, and Wednesday, June 8, between 7pm and 8pm, are aimed at people of all ages.

The themes will centre around nature during the May session, and Medway for the June session.

Submissions for the NHS anthology will be open until Monday, May 30.
