McDonald's on Gillingham High Street places ban on under-21s from eating inside

The McDonald’s on Gillingham High Street has banned under-21s from eating in the branch after 3pm.

Caprece Kyriacou, 18, from Gillingham was with her friend when they were told to leave because they were under 21.

The pair had already purchased their food one-by-one after two security guards had asked their age upon entry, forcing one of the girls to wait outside.

Ms Kyriacou said: “One of the security guards came over to me and told me to take my food and get out.

"I couldn’t understand why, and he told me 18 to 20-year-olds can’t eat there after 3pm.

"He was rude and treated me like a criminal.”

It happened on Monday.

In July of this year a similar incident occurred at the fast food giant’s Strood outlet, when an 18-year-old was unable to eat inside unless accompanied by an adult.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Our Gillingham restaurant has experienced incidences of anti-social behaviour.

"As a result we have regrettably placed a temporary restriction on those under the age of 21 from eating inside the restaurant.”

It is unknown how long the restriction will last.
