All Year 11 pupils at a school have been told to stay home today.

The head teacher of Fort Pitt Grammar in Chatham wrote to parents last night.

Nicky Archer told them a pupil from that year group had tested positive for Covid-19.

Youngsters have been asked to isolate at home today while contact tracing is carried out.

This will determine which pupils will need to isolate for a longer period.

Family members do not need to self-isolate unless their child develops symptoms.

All other year groups will continue to attend school today as normal.

Miss Archer said: "The school will continue to operate as normal and in line with our Covid-secure protocols.

"We will, however, be reminding all members of the school community of the need to strictly follow all safety measures.

"I would like to kindly ask all parents, carers and family members to avoid discussing this case on social media as this can often create misinformation and unnecessarily increase anxiety and worry."

Meanwhile, Rainham School for Girls has asked two year groups to stay at home for the rest of the week.

A number of staff members have been self-isolating meaning there are not enough teachers to "safely manage the school".

At the weekend, it was reported 20 sixth formers at Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School in Rochester have been told to stay home.
