General Election 2019: Hackers target Google account of Tonbridge and Malling candidate Tom Tugendhat

One of Kent's most prominent politicians has reportedly been targeted by hackers.

Tom Tugendhat, who has represented Tonbridge and Malling in parliament and is standing for re-election, took to Twitter to reveal a Google address in his name had been "pushing out lies" to the South China Morning Post.

The 46-year-old, who lives near Edenbridge, said: "In the last few hours a @Google address claiming to be me has been pushing out lies to @SCMPNews and offering an email interview.

"Clearly someone has decided my voice should be hidden by a cloud of lies."

Three hours later he tweeted: "@Google have suspended the fake account.

"That is quick and I’m very grateful. Thank you @GoogleUK"

Google have been contacted for comment.
