A High Street could be radically altered after plans were submitted to demolish several buildings and replace them with 28 homes.
Medway Council has received an application from Parklake Estates Ltd to clear land on Rochester High Street to build new homes.
The Sittingbourne-based property developer had previously sought the public’s views on proposals to build up to 75 homes on the site in April last year.
Since then, designs have been developed and the number of properties reduced to 28 houses in total - five two-beds, 11 three-beds, and 10 four-beds and two five-beds.
The proposals would also increase the number of parking spaces on the plot from 20 to 36 and add 32 new cycle spaces.
The site includes Thai Market, an Asian supermarket, and a branch of Pizza Hut, both of which will remain on the site, along with 322 and 324 High Street.
The remaining buildings, including the former shop of Kent Bed Centre, the RockChurch Kent, and the empty factory buildings towards the back of the site, will all be demolished.
The application says consultation with the public and consideration of the design features of the local area have played a role in the final version of the proposals.
The designs for the 12 homes directly on the High Street and 15 further back in the site have been made, Parklake says, have been done to fit in with the character of the local area.
This includes both in the style of the frontage of the properties, as well as the materials of which the homes will be made of.

Each property is to include a rear garden, but there will also be a shared garden, which has a section open to the public.
At the public consultation event last year, residents raised concerns about the lack of parking available considering the increase in properties, and following pre-application meetings the designs removed flat blocks and became exclusively houses.
The application is currently being considered by Medway Council planning officers and may go before councillors for a decision in the future.
