Emergency services called to Sun Pier, Chatham, as woman entered River Medway

A huge riverfront search was carried out after a woman entered the water.

Police officers, paramedics and the coastguard descended onto Sun Pier, in Chatham, at around 9pm on Friday (June 6).

A nearby resident who watched the incident unfold from his balcony said there were also at least five fire engines and an incident support team in attendance.

He also reported seeing two rescue cars, an ambulance and several police cars parked up in Riverside Gardens, behind the former library.

He added: “There were loads and they were there for about two hours. A boat also joined the search.”

The emergency services were told a woman had entered the River Medway, and crews were able to help her out of the water.

She was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
