It’s safe to say opening your curtains to see three “wandering” horses grazing in the garden is not an everyday occurrence if you happen to live on a new build housing estate.
But that’s exactly what happened when Holly Lake, of Beata Gardens in Rainham, heard “trotting” noises outside at 8.30am.
When she looked outside her home this morning (May 9), she was surprised to discover three equines “chilling” and nibbling on the neighbour’s grass.
The 26-year-old, who works as a senior administrator, told KentOnline: “I was just setting up and getting ready for the day, let the cats out, got a drink, sat down and got my laptop out and shortly after I hear like trotting noises.
“I looked outside and there is three horses just chilling outside my house.
“I thought how the hell have these horses got on here and I saw my neighbour and went outside and asked her what was going on.”
Her neighbour told her how she had spotted them and wanted to keep them safe.
Earlier that morning other residents had seen the horses wandering round the estate with one video showing them galloping down the road.
Far from causing havoc, the horses were seen trotting along, pausing momentarily to have a munch on patches of grass.
Holly added: “They just started eating the grass outside and the trees that had just started growing.
“The horses were just wandering around but were so calm and were really nice and gentle.
“We gave them lots of strokes and pats and lots of love and attention.
“That’s when my neighbour suggested getting them into her garden away from the road.
“They seemed very domesticated and friendly so we just started summoning towards the house.”
Then Holly remembered she had some carrots in the fridge to entice them in, but, by the time she returned, the horses had made their way to her neighbours back gate and had walked into her garden.
“They started munching her grass and one of them did do a poo as she came in,” she added.
“Then I gave her the carrots to keep them happy.”
After this the 26-year-old returned to her home and gazed out of the window at the horses in her neighbour’s garden.
“It was so bizarre just seeing three horses just chilling in her garden. You never see that do you,” she added.
Around 15 minutes later the police arrived and shortly after the owners came with the bridles and other gear, before leading them out of the garden onto the path which led to a nearby yard.
“Hopefully now they are all settled back in and munching away on their hay,” added Holly.
