Gravesend woman ‘left for dead’ after hit-and-run in Crow Lane, Rochester devastated nobody has been charged 15 months on

A woman “left for dead” after being mowed down by a suspected “hit-and-run” driver is devastated that after 15 months nobody has been charged.

Jade Miskin, from Gravesend, was left “crying and in pain” in hospital as she suffered multiple fractures, a broken eye socket and smashed jaw following the collision.

She had been walking through Crow Lane, Rochester, after a night out celebrating her birthday with friends in February last year when she was struck unexpectedly.

Two teenagers were arrested hours later, and, at the time, Jade said she was led to believe there could be charges as serious as attempted murder.

But two weeks ago, the 33-year-old says she received a call from Kent Police saying they had presented their case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which had decided not to take the case any further.

After KentOnline contacted the CPS we were then told by Kent Police that two 18-year-olds had been released pending further inquiries, and the investigation was ongoing.

Speaking from the family home in Gravesend, Jade spoke of her dismay upon hearing the decision by the CPS.

“I didn’t know whether to scream or cry when they told me,” she said.

“I now want to know why, and I’m going to appeal against the decision.”

Since that fateful night in February last year, when she had been celebrating her birthday with two male mates, she is too scared to go out.

Jade has since left her flat in Northfleet and moved back in with her mum Trudie, who is looking after her.

Mum-of-three Trudie, 50, recalls the moment when an officer knocked on her door in the early hours and said her daughter had been taken to King’s College Hospital in London.

She said: “I was told to hurry up and get dressed as she might not make it.

“My daughter and I were blue-lighted up the hospital.

“When I got there, it was terrible. She was crying and in pain, and there was blood everywhere.”

Thankfully, Jade said she has little memory of the night and only remembers waking up in the hospital the following day.

She added: “We’d been to Wetherspoons for something to eat and were making our way back to the station.

“I don’t know how we ended up in Crow Lane.”

Trudie said she had seen CCTV footage of what happened, which she claims shows a car “aiming” at her daughter, turning around in Crow Lane before hitting her on her side.

Jade, who has not been able to work because of mental health issues, said: “I need to see these people brought to court.

“Who knows, they could do it again to somebody else.

“My life will never be the same.“

Police confirmed their attendance to reports that a pedestrian was seriously injured following a collision involving a blue Ford Eco Sport car in Crow Lane, Rochester, at 12.41am on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

“Officers attended and initial inquiries were completed,” they said. “The victim, a woman in her 30s, was treated for head injuries at a London hospital, from where she was later discharged to continue her recovery.

“Two men, aged 18 and from the local area, were arrested in connection with the incident later that morning and have been released pending further inquiries.”

Kent Police remains in consultation with the CPS in regards to the case.

KentOnline has approached the CPS for comment.
