Diggerland at Medway Valley Leisure Park to be used as polling station for local elections

Local elections are taking place across the county today – but some people will be able to go to one particularly quirky location to cast their votes.

Diggerland at Medway Valley Leisure Park in Strood will be entertaining voters instead of children as it welcomes people as one of the Towns’ polling stations for the day.

More than 550 seats are up for grabs across 12 district and borough councils in Kent, alongside the Medway unitary authority.

Seats on all 24 Medway Council wards and the 11 parish councils are up for grabs.

An overnight count will be held for Medway, with things set to get udnerway at around 10pm.

It means it could be among one of the largest authorities to secure an early result.

Elections are also being held for Ashford, Canterbury, Dartford, Dover, Folkestone and Hythe, Gravesham, Maidstone, Swale, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Thanet, and Tonbridge and Malling.

Voters are being reminded that it is now a requirement to have some form of photo ID to take part in council elections.
