Both men got out of the car before the 28-year-old drove off with the money.

When the incident was reported officers carried out an investigation and CCTV appeal, which resulted in the suspect handing himself in to police.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Mark Silk said: "Higgins saw an opportunity to make some quick cash after spending time losing his own.

"He deliberately targeted his victim knowing he was in possession of money and used intimidation and threatening behaviour to scare him into handing over the cash.

"Although he pleaded guilty he attempted to make excuses for his behaviour however the judge saw through these excuses and sentenced him accordingly."
