A large search and rescue operation has been launched on the River Medway after someone apparently reported a body was floating in the River Medway.

The emergency services were called out to Medway Bridge Marina in Borstal, Rochester, shortly before 7am after a motorist driving on the London-bound carriageway apparently spotted a body floating in the river.

The report suggested the body floating was wearing a green jumper, but as yet, nothing has been found.

It is understood so far the only thing spotted by the search teams was a seal basking on one of the banks of the river.
