Though 79-year-old Mr Youngs, of Twydall Lane, Twydall, had no children, Mandy Foran remembers him as a father figure.

The mum, who is originally from Rainham but lives in Sittingbourne, knew Mr Youngs when he worked on the Isle of Grain with her father.

He was a close family friend and had always been there to support her and her children.

She said: “He was a keen bowls player, he loved playing bowls. When we got a bit older, we would both go to Rainham Social Club.

“He was so funny, everyone used to call him Yogi Bear.”

Mrs Foran and her family asked to thank the woman who performed CPR and everyone who gave their well wishes through social media and KentOnline.

Business owners, shoppers and councillors are now hoping to install a public defibrillator near the shops.

Michelle Beattie, who runs Costa in Goudhurst Road, Twydall, said: “I think they have a defibrillator in the health centre, but you can only access that if it is open.

“I’m going to contact my head office, and ask them about buying one for Costa but it would have to be inside the shop; what we really need is one on the wall outside where people can use it.

“I’m defibrillator-trained, I do St John Ambulance and worked in the NHS for 20 years.

“I would have been banging on the health centre door for the defibrillator, I want everyone in the community to know I’m always here in Costa if there is another emergency.”

Twydall ward Cllr Hazel Browne (Lab) said: “We will have to talk to the shops and businesses to see if any of them will be happy to have one and maintain it."

Cllr Browne, with Cllr Mark Prenter (Lab) and Cllr John Lloyd (Lab), are planning to hold a street stall, with the prospect of having a defibrillator being the main focus.

The trio will be outside the post office in Twydall Green on Saturday and are looking forward to hearing where people’s views.
