Hoo Sports Centre swimming pool to close for more than a month

Part of a leisure centre is set to shut for more than a month for improvement works.

The Hoo Sports Centre’s swimming pool will be closed from Monday, May 19, until Monday, June 30.

This is so alterations to the pool and changing rooms can be carried out.

Work being carried out includes replacing an old gas boiler as well as improving the lighting throughout the centre.

Areas such as the reception, toilets, studio and gym will remain open.

The closure comes after it was announced last year that the centre would receive £1 million for energy efficiency improvements and changing room upgrades.

The money was made available from Section 106 funding - contributions from developers as part of planning applications.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Medway Council said: “These works form part of the work announced last year to improve the energy efficiency of Hoo Sport Centre and are funded by Sports England.

“Swimming clubs and schools, as well as those who have booked swimming lessons, will be contacted directly.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

They added that further improvement works to the centre’s changing room facilities will take place this financial year.
