Maidstone man arrested after woman raped in Chatham

A man has been arrested after a reports a woman was raped.

The incident happened in a subway between Dock Road and Melville court at 2.40am.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, was approached by a man while walking towards Brompton.

He is said to have assaulted and raped her.

A man from Maidstone has now been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in custody.

The incident is being investigated by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate who are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward, as well as anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of Dock Road from 1.30am onwards.
