By 10.50pm, police had tracked it to Chelmar Road about a mile-and-a-half away, where it was stopped.

There, officers arrested a 26-year-old man from Gillingham on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody.

Police are working to identify and track down a second man who fled the scene last night.

The car has since been returned to its rightful owner.
