Police swarm a van on the M2 between Chatham and Rochester following Swanley incident

A swarm of around 15 police cars sped down the motorway and surrounded a van in connection to an earlier incident.

A witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, saw the fleet of police cars race down the hard shoulder heading coast bound on the M2 between junction 2 for Rochester and junction 3 for Chatham.

This comes after a distressed man was spotted on a footbridge above the M25 between junction 3 for the Swanley Interchange to junction 4 for Orpington.

The man left the scene and police chased him to the M2.

The witness said: "I saw about 15 cop cars fly down the hard shoulder and surrounded a van.

"The man got out the van and police were talking to him at the side of the road.

"He did not seem injured."

The police helicopter is said to be hovering above the scene.

Traffic on the M2 is moving again.

Police have arrested the man in connection with the incident, no injuries have been reported.

Inquiries are ongoing.

The M25 between junctions 3 and 4, was closed to make way for police during the earlier incident near Swanley.

The stretch of road was reopened at around 9.30am.
