Man attacked near St Mark's Church in Gillingham out of hospital as police appeal for witnesses

A man who was found unconscious near a church and left with head injuries in an early morning attack is now out of hospital.

The man was found near St Mark's Church in Canterbury Street, Gillingham, just before 6am yesterday.

He was taken to hospital with head injuries, which were not reported to be life-threatening, but has since been discharged.

Officers investigating the incident, which they think happened at about 3am, were called to the scene at 5.59am and cordoned-off the place of worship.

They also arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of assault.

He has now been bailed until Wednesday, November 4, pending further inquiries.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information which can assist them with their investigation.
