Man 'attempts to grab baby' in Morrisons car park in Strood

A mother loading her shopping in a car park was approached by a man who tried to grab a baby, it is believed.

The incident is thought to have happened in Morrisons car park in Knight Road, Strood.

The man is said to have stood very close to the mum while she was holding her child and putting away her shopping between 7pm and 7.40pm on Saturday, September 29.

Staff at Morrisons confirmed they had been made aware of a man's attempt to snatch a mother's child.

A spokesman at Morrisons said: "One of the security guards said the man attempted to take the baby.

"We are aware of this man and the incident.

"He will try and take money from our charity boxes.

"One time he slapped a member of staff when they tried to stop him."

Police spokesman James Walker said: "Police received a report that a man was seen acting suspiciously in a car park.

"The informant said the man stood near them as they loaded their car and they believed his behaviour was suspicious.

"The man did not speak with the informant and no physical contact was made.

"Officers are assessing the circumstances and these inquiries remain ongoing."
