Driver arrested after man dies after being struck by car in Luton Road, Chatham

A driver has been arrested after a man was knocked down by a car and killed in Chatham during the early hours of this morning.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses after the man was struck in Luton Road, Chatham.

The man, who is in his 50s from Chatham, was crossing Luton Road at 1.08am when he was hit by a white Renault Clio.

He died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

A 21-year-old man from Gillingham has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in custody.

The tragedy happened just hours after two people were killed when their car hit a tree in Marden, in what was a busy night for Kent's emergency services.
