Man dies in Sturdee Avenue, Gillingham

A man has died in the same road where a house fire broke out this afternoon.

Police officers and ambulance crews were called to Sturdee Avenue, Gillingham, at about 1.10pm after concerns were raised over a man's welfare.

Emergency services rushed to the area but the man, who witnesses said was elderly, died.

Less than two hours later, at about 2.50pm, emergency services were back in the same road to tackle a house fire.

A police spokesman confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and inquiries are being made to trace the man's next of kin.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.

Police were unable to give details of the man's age or the circumstances in which he died.
