Man dies after falling into River Medway near Canal Road, Strood

A man has died after falling into the River Medway.

Police, fire crews, paramedics, and the coastguard were called to Canal Road in Strood at about 10.30am yesterday after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person reported to have fallen in the river.

Police have confirmed this morning that a man in his 70s was located and confirmed dead.

His next of kin has been informed and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

At the height of the response, around 20 emergency vehicles were at the scene and a lifeboat was in the water.

An air ambulance also attended, leaving shortly before midday.
