Man killed and another arrested after M2 crash between Gillingham and Sittingbourne

A man has died and another has been arrested following a crash on the M2.

Huge delays have followed the smash on the coastbound stretch between junctions 4 (Gillingham) and 5 (Sittingbourne) just after 1.30pm. The road reopened at 10pm.

The incident saw a grey BMW estate collide with a white lorry.

Police, paramedics, the air ambulance and fire crews worked at the scene but were unable to save a man aged in his 20s. His next of kin have been informed.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.

An investigation into the collision is being carried out by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) who are asking drivers to check their dashcams for anything which might assist their inquiries.

A second collision also closed two lanes of M2 between Junction 2 for Rochester and Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill.

That happened at around 3.30pm between a car and a van on the coastbound carriageway.

Drivers were left in hour-long queues across Medway.

The police investigation remains ongoing.
