A man arrested following a reported rape in Gillingham has been released on bail.

Police launched an investigation after a report that a woman was attacked close to the junction of Barnsole Road and Watling Street overnight between Friday and Saturday.

Teams of officers were at the scene outside Kwik Fit over the weekend and a 37-year-old Chatham man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of rape.

He was taken into custody where he was held on Monday evening, but has since been released on bail until May 29 while enquiries continue.
