Woman arrested for drink-driving after crash in Rochester

A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and a man was taken to hospital after a quad bike and three other vehicles were involved in a crash.

The emergency services were called out to Corporation Street at its junction with Northgate in the centre of Rochester at about 10.30pm last night.

The incident resulted in the road being closed for some time as firefighters, ambulance crews and police dealt with the crash scene.

It is understood a quad bike, a people carrier and another two smaller cars were involved in the smash which happened near to the Corn Exchange.

Police say a man was also taken to hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A woman 24, who who saw the aftermath but didn't want to be named, said: "I could see a silver car and its doors had been taken off.

"It looked like it had been driving towards Rochester Castle when the accident happened.

"There was what I thought was a motorbike on its side further up the road.

"There were four police cars and a couple of ambulances and police were turning motorists around on Corporation Street, near the car wash place.

"Quite a crowd had gathered around the cordon."

Police spokesman, Vicki Foster, added: "Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and one man was taken to a London hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

"A woman in her 20s from Ashford was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and has been released under investigation pending further inquiries."
