McDonald's in Gillingham to close

McDonald's is set to close one of its restaurants at the end of the month.

The fast food giant's site on Gillingham High Street has been confirmed to be closing its doors permanently on July 31.

Staff have been handed notices and told they will re-located to other stores in the area when the time comes for it to close down.

A friend of a staff member, Mr Patel, who lives in Gillingham, said: "What is going to replace it?

"It brings a lot of people here and they take their business to other shops along the high street. It is a very big outlet and is used a lot."

McDonald's have not yet revealed what has caused the closure of the high street store.

A spokesperson said: "We are sad to confirm that the restaurant will close permanently at the end of July.

"All employees at the restaurant have been offered alternative employment with us."
