One man, in his 40s, was treated by firefighters for cuts to his legs, while a man, in his 30s, was treated for minor burns to his right leg.

Both men were transferred into the care of paramedics.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Due to the remote location of the boat, difficult access and tidal waters firefighters held a watching brief carrying out a controlled burn.

"The fire is believed to have been accidental and is thought to have been caused by a fuel spill that self ignited and spread which then set fire to the boat."

Three fire engines attended.

They headed back to station at about 4.30pm.
