Police say they were called shortly after 10am to a collision involving a car and a moped in the tunnel.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene where the moped rider was treated for injuries.

He has since been taken to hospital for further medical attention.

The tunnel was initially completely shut, then one lane (right-hand side) was opened whilst arrangements were made to recover the moped.

There were delays in and around the town centre as a result, and drivers faced queues on the A231 through Chatham.

“Crews assessed and treated one patient at the scene before taking them to Medway Maritime Hospital with minor injuries.”
