Gillingham MP Paul Clark has warned a train company that staff fear "an accident is just around the corner", according to a leaked memo.

Mr Clark wrote to National Express East Coast (NXEC), raising concerns, including one about faulty brakes, when contacted by one of his Gillingham constituents who works for NXEC.

In the letter, addressed to NXEC managing director Susan Goldsmith, he wrote: "I am writing to you in my capacity as a constituency Member of Parliament, rather than my role as Transport Minister.

"My letter has been prompted by concerns raised with my office by one of my constituents."

He went on: "I take my constituent's comments with the utmost seriousness and I am shocked and appalled at the information with which I've been provided."
