Murder inquiry launched after man found by Rochester bridge

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was found dead near a bridge.

A man in his 30s from Rainham has been arrested in connection with the incident after emergency services were called to Corporation Street in Rochester at 7.25am yesterday.

The victim, who was found when a member of the public raised the alarm, is a 39-year-old from Sittingbourne.

Officers put a cordon in place stopping pedestrians walking from Strood to Rochester while they carried out inquiries.

Police remained at the scene until late afternoon yesterday.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who believes they have information about the man’s death, or anyone who heard or saw anything unusual in the High Street or Corporation Street area the previous night or during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
