A former pie and mash shop could be turned into a holistic health centre.

Plans have been put forward to convert The London Pie Company in Chatham High Street into a space offering alternative therapies.

Holistic therapist Rebecca Farrell, who is from the town, wants to transform the now-empty restaurant into a one-stop shop for all things wellbeing.

Rebecca, of Boundary Road, used to work out of The Health House in the same high street and wants to pick up where that left off after its closure in December.

The shop, which was in business for around 30 years, sold supplements and also had rooms above offering a wide range of therapies.

Owner Bill McPherson closed it down so he could retire.

Australian-born mother-of-two Rebecca said: “I have been working for myself for seven years but I qualified 20 years ago.

"I think stress and anxiety are really prevalent and this is a place people can connect with themselves.”

“I practised on friends and family for years as I didn’t fully believe in the power of those therapies but my own healing power really took off when I started meditating.”

The 43-year-old offers reiki, massage and reflexology.

She would like to include yoga and pilates classes and services such as anxiety counselling and nutritional guidance.

The former restaurant would also host a cafe offering vegan and vegetarian food.

She added: “The centre is really just about connecting people. Yoga is really about connecting with yourself but the idea of the centre is to connect with the people around you.

“There’s a huge yoga community in Medway and there are so many ways to look after ourselves.

“I think stress and anxiety are really prevalent and this is a place people can connect with themselves.”

If she is successful in obtaining planning permission she hopes to get things up and running by mid-March.
