KentOnline and Medway Maritime launch annual Hospital Hero award

The annual Hospital Hero Award is back and KM Media Group is teaming up with Medway Maritime once again to find someone who always goes above and beyond and is deserving of recognition.

To celebrate the achievements of hard-working staff we’re asking readers to nominate anyone who may have done something extraordinary or often goes the extra mile to make a difference to patients’ lives.

Anyone you believe deserving of praise can be put forward, regardless of their role.

A shortlist will be chosen by the KM and a winner will be announced at the hospital’s Star Awards on June 12.

Jayne Black, Medway NHS Foundation Trust chief executive, said: “Once again our heartfelt thanks to the KM Media Group for helping us find this year’s Hospital Hero.

“The award is a fantastic way to recognise and reward hard-working staff who have gone the extra mile for our patients or have shown great passion and commitment to improving their care, nominated by our patients and their family and friends.

“If you know somebody who deserves to be a hospital hero, please take the time to nominate them.”

Last year we chose Emily Brown as our winner – you can read our profile on her here.

She is the world’s first hospital-based namaste care practitioner, using alternative therapies to help patients living with dementia or at the end of their lives.

Emily said: “I do my job because I truly love it so winning Hospital Hero for 2024 for doing something I love means more than words.

“Since being recognised for my work, I have continued to embed namaste care at Medway Maritime Hospital with the introduction of the Butterfly Restaurant and Winter Wonderland experiences.

“These encourage our patients living with dementia to leave their bed space and enjoy the company of other people while they have lunch or socialise.

“I was also asked to be a keynote speaker at the Namaste Care International Conference, London in September 2024.

“I’m really excited for 2025 as one of my projects will be to create two namaste rooms on our wards so patients living with dementia can be provided with namaste care in a calm environment.”

Nominations for the Hospital Hero award are now open and should include the person’s name, department and a short description of why they deserve to win.

You can submit this by email to medway@thekmgroup.co.uk or complete the form in the Medway Messenger.

Nominations close on Monday, March 17.
