Part of a busy route was closed this morning for emergency gas repairs.
Luton Road, in Chatham, was initially shut from Upper Luton Road to Luton Primary School, as a safety precaution due to a gas leak.
However, the closure has since been replaced with temporary traffic lights to allow vehicles to pass while repairs are made.
Gas engineers were on-site earlier and have confirmed they are investigating the leak, at the junction of Luton Road and Pheasant Road.
A spokesman for gas company SGN, Dan Brown, added: “It is too early at this stage to say how long it will take to repair our affected pipe.”
Arriva has also warned passengers to expect delays to its services in the area due to the temporary lights.
A spokesperson added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
