Michael Hayes admits dangerous driving following police chase in Citroën Xsara Picasso

A man who led police on a chase before his people carrier was brought to a stop with a stinger is facing jail.

Michael Hayes ignored officers’ requests for him to stop on the Wainscott bypass just before midnight on January 16.

Instead police were forced to pursue the 27-year-old’s Citroen Xsara Picasso as he drove it dangerously through Strood.

The car was eventually brought to a stop two and a half miles away in Corporation Street, Rochester, and Hayes, of Burch Road, Northfleet, was arrested having failed a roadside drugs test, giving a positive reading for cocaine, and blown more than twice the alcohol limit on a breath test.

When he got back to the station he refused to comply with further tests and was instead charged with failing to provide a specimen.

Hayes was remanded in custody and when he appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court admitted the charge as well as dangerous driving and getting behind the wheel without a licence or insurance.

He’ll be sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on a date to be determined.
